Supplier ESB wins consent for farm alongside coal plant

Irish electricity supplier ESB has won consent from Clare County Council for a wind farm alongside its coal fired Moneypoint Power Station near Kilrush on the Shannon estuary. The EUR 20 million project comprises nine wind turbines of about 2-2.5 MW each. ESB claims that because of its windy location, each wind turbine is expected to produce about double the energy of the same machine on what would be considered a good wind site in Denmark, the Netherlands or Germany. The company expects procurement and construction of the wind turbines to take one year.
