EU-wide energy tax debated
A working paper in support of an EU-wide energy tax, now being considered following the failure of member states to agree on a carbon tax, says shifting taxes from the labour market to energy would be good for jobs, the economy and the environment, reports ENDS Environment Daily. Three separate studies of the policy all agree an energy tax would create a "win-win-win" situation. The positive effect on GDP growth would be 0.02-0.2%, there would be 155,000-457,000 new jobs and a cut in CO2 emissions of 0.5-1.6%.
