Utilities ever keener to seek wind through tender

Four more Japanese utilities will in future be seeking power supplies from wind farms through open tender. From next year, wind developers will be able to submit bids for supply of green power from their projects to Tohoku Electric Power Co, Tokyo Electric Power Co, Chubu Electric Power Co and Kyushu Electric Power Co. The first invitations to tender will be held in March. The northern utility, Hokkaido Electric Power Co, has invited bids for supply of wind power since last year (Windpower Monthly, December 1999). Only four other utilities are not seeking wind through an open tender, but they are considering doing so.
