Poll reveals Scots choose wind power over nuclear

If Scots are presented with a choice between wind farms or nuclear on their doorstep, wind wins hands down. So finds a poll conducted by ICM for the BBC television channel in Scotland. Given the choice, 73% of respondents supported wind with 17% preferring nuclear. "Westminster and the nuclear industry should stop trying to foist new nuclear stations on Scotland," says Duncan McLaren of Friends of the Earth Scotland. "This poll confirms that, faced with the threat of climate change, Scots overwhelmingly endorse renewable energy as the best way to meet needs for electricity. This is consistent with other recent findings from an Institution of Civil Engineers survey that over four-fifths of Scots oppose nuclear power."
