Exploring offshore issues

The independent Environment Council is to conduct a stakeholder dialogue exercise to explore the issues facing offshore wind development. The council-which conducted the Brent Spar negotiations-has been commissioned by the British Wind Energy Association (BWEA) to consult the many diverse industries, groups or organisations who may have an interest in any of the issues concerning offshore wind. According to the BWEA's Nick Goodall, the aim of the exercise is to identify and assess the issues before they become problems. "It is an attempt to ensure that offshore wind is as successful as possible," he says. The exercise is being funded by most of the wind plant developers who are known to be involved in offshore wind. A first meeting takes place at the end of this month.
