Flemish sewerage association Aquafin plans wind projects on its properties

Flemish sewerage association Aquafin, a producer of biomass energy, is developing several wind projects on a number of its properties. Projects include two 1.65 MW turbines in Ostende, a 2 MW turbine in Ertvelde, and two 660 kW turbines in Middelkerke, on the North Sea coast. Contracts have been signed with Electrawinds and WVEM (for Ostende), Westenwind and Electrabel (Ertvelde) and Middelwind and WVEM for Middelkerke, where one turbine is running and the second has just received a building license. Aquafin is also assessing the suitability of sites in Knokke and Antwerp for similar projects whereby the developer is responsible for installation, operation and maintenance of turbines and Aquafin takes some of the green electricity generated and any remainder is exported to the national grid.
