Nearly 150 attended the Offshore Wind Energy in the Mediterranean and Other European Seas (OWEMES) conference, dominated by the Danes and the Dutch, with strong representation from Germany, the UK, Japan and host country Italy. Utilities, government agencies and the research institutes were represented en masse, alongside six wind turbine manufacturers (Vestas, NEG Micon, Bonus, Nordex, Tacke and Lagerwey), subcontractors for cables and offshore foundations, and, notably, delegates from the financial sector, such as Germany's HypoVereinsbank. "It's another type of delegate now," noted Bent Jørgensen of Danish ElsamProjekt. "It's not grassroots any more."
