Nippon Steel awaits permission for 30 MW project

Nippon Steel Co is planning to build a 30 MW wind farm near Sakata city in Yamagata prefecture by 2003. If the project goes ahead the wind plant will consist of 20 turbines each rated at 1.5 MW, although Nippon Steel declines to name the technology supplier as yet. The company is now waiting for local authority permission to build the proposed plant at a site it has identified in national parkland.
