New energy minister appointed

Helen Liddell has picked up the government's renewables portfolio after she was appointed Energy Minister at the Department of Trade and Industry in the government reshuffle at the end of July. She replaces John Battle who has been moved to the Foreign Office. Liddell also assumes most of the portfolio of former Minister for Competitiveness in Europe, Lord Simon. She joins the DTI in what appears a sideways move from the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions where she had been Minister for Transport for only two months.
