Unusually low levels of snowfall and windy conditions this past winter increased Finland's wind plant output to record levels, with a 20% improvement on the same period in the previous year, according to energy ministry statistics. On the island of Larsmo, off the west coast at Kokkola, output from a single WinWind 1 MW operated by Larsmo Vindkraft leapt from 140 MWh two winters ago to 250 MWh last winter. The company now wants to install three further turbines of the same make and sell the output to the region's biggest power supplier, Pietarsaari Energia.
