Spanish utility Endesa orders 500 MW

Gamesa Eólica, Gamesa's wind turbine manufacturing division, has sealed a EUR 430 million deal to supply around 500 MW of turbines to the country's leading utility, Endesa. The deal was signed just before Endesa's acquisition by a joint venture comprising Gamesa's chief Spanish rival on the wind market, Acciona, and Italian utility Enel (page 29). All the turbines will be delivered by the end of 2010. Around half the capacity is destined for projects in Andalucia, says Endesa, with the rest expected to go up in Galicia and Castile and León, although the contract gives Endesa flexibility regarding location. Gamesa adds that 70% of the order is for 2 MW machines with the rest for its 850 kW units. The deal brings Gamesa's cumulative order total from Endesa to 1400 MW.
