Japan Wind Development Co Ltd will start producing electricity at its partly owned 15 MW NS Wind Power station in Fukuoka prefecture in March. The developer won the project in a wind-only tender put out by the utility last year. The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will finance one-third of the ´3 billion development of ten GE Wind 1.5 MW turbines. Construction is taking place at the coast in Hibikinada Port area, in Kitakyushu, on a site leased from Kitakyushu municipal government. The wind plant will supply 35 million kWh annually to Kyushu Electric Power Co on a 15 year contract. NS Wind Power is a joint venture between Japan wind Development Co and Nippon Steel.
