Wind farms have made it onto a shortlist of environmental icons alongside the otter, the barn owl and bluebell woods. The shortlist was drawn up by the 13,000 employees of the Environment Agency, which is commemorating its tenth anniversary. The agency is asking the public to vote online for what it believes is the most iconic symbol of England's environment. Helen McCallum from the Environment Agency says: "The short-listed icons of the environment embrace a range of natural heritage species and habitats that we revere; human ingenuity that showcases integration with the environment and symbols of our increasing efforts to protect the planet from over-exploitation."
