Rising to the offshore challenge

Global offshore wind energy capacity is predicted to

increase from around 170 MW today to almost 11,000 MW by 2007. If the industry is to achieve this economic exploitation of the offshore wind resource will be all important. The wind industry though has a history of growth that exceeds expectations and, while some of the challenges it faces are of hair raising complexity, solutions that will slash the price of a kilowatt hour made at sea are already close at hand.
