An opinion poll conducted on the sparsely populated island of Sottunga off Åland -- where a Vestas turbine was installed in 1992 -- revealed a positive public attitude to wind power. Of the 55 respondents to the poll, 49 were positive about wind power before the turbine was erected while six had no opinion. Polled again after living with the turbine, 28 respondents aid they were more positive than before about wind turbines and 51 said "the wind turbine is beautiful where it stands and adds to the scenic quality of the landscape." Furthermore, 54 of Sottunga's residents wanted more turbines. Asked about noise, 35 said they were not disturbed at all, while 20 concluded they could hear some noise, but this was not disturbing. No one complained about noise.
