Market status round-up 1999

(This is the introductory text to a series of articles that follow. -The editors.) Wind power moved up a division in the power industry league in 1999, installing at least 3700 MW of new plant, double the capacity installed in 1998, also a record year. World wind capacity today stands at over 13,500 MW and the annual market growth rate is 38%. Most development--about 3500 MW--was in Europe and the USA.
