California power marketers supply residential wind energy

Retail power marketer Green Mountain Energy Resources will install two wind turbines to supply green power for 8000 residential customers in California. The turbines, two 750 kW NEG Micon machines, are to be installed as part of the repowering of SeaWest's 43 MW Westwind site in San Gorgonio Pass in southern California. One of the turbines is to supply customers who have signed up for Green Mountain's "Wind for the Future" green pricing package through Working Assets, a San Francisco company best known for its long distance phone service. The remainder of the customers have signed directly with Green Mountain, based in Vermont and which is part of utility owner Green Mountain Power Corp. Green Mountain is one of a handful of power marketers targeting California's residential market. Enron Wind is already in the process of installing turbines in a 16 MW repowered project in Cabazon, to supply large users of green power including outdoors clothing company Patagonia Inc. Enron Corp had initially entered the residential market but decided to pull out in late April.
