Electrabel picks Vestas for 66 MW on Sicily

Electrabel, the Belgian subsidiary of French utility Suez, has turned to Vestas for a 66 MW wind farm in the southern Italian region of Sicily. The order for 31, 2 MW turbines and five of Vestas 850 kW units for the Trapani Salemi project was placed by WINDCO, a project company belonging to Electrabel. The financial value of the contract was not disclosed. Turbine delivery is slated to begin in December with project completion by October 2009. Electrabel has one 19.55 MW Italian wind farm operating at Longano in Molise using Vestas 850 kW turbines.
