"Could you imagine an industry minister in Finland who told people to stop using mobile phones? Or a minister in Germany who warned against buying cars?" NEG Micon boss Torben Bjerre Madsen put these rhetorical questions to more than 300 participants attending an open "wind meeting" hosted by the company last month. He was commenting on the current political situation in Denmark following hostile remarks about wind power by the six month old right of centre government, made within weeks of it taking office. The government has since reduced the wind tariff and cut spending on research and development. Bjerre-Madsen stressed that even if the domestic market represented no more than 5% of the global market, continued installation of wind turbines at home provides a critical exhibition window for the global reputation of the Danish industry.
