Utility declines offshore involvement

Preussenelektra, Germany's second largest utility, is not considering any involvement in offshore wind projects, says the utility's Petra Uhlmann. Speculation had been growing that Preussenelektra, which dominates the electricity supply sector in northern Germany, was interested in participating in offshore wind projects after Danish utilities had aired plans for sizeable offshore wind stations (Windpower Monthly, July 1997). Despite its generally negative attitude towards wind energy in Germany, Preussenelektra has a co-operation arrangement with German wind turbine manufacturer Enercon of Aurich for projects abroad.
