Texas 30 MW phase on-line

The 30 MW Delaware Mountain Windfarm in Texas, developed by Enron Wind and owned by American National Wind Power (ANWP), part of Britain's National Wind Power, is on line. Power from it is being sold to the Lower Colorado River Authority, based in Austin, the state capital, and Reliant Energy HL&P of Houston. The opening follows the Texas legislature passing a Renewable Portfolio Standard goal of adding 2000 MW of renewables to the state electricity mix by 2009 (Windpower Monthly, July 1999). The 30 MW wind farm in Culberson County is being described as the first phase of a 250 MW development, to go ahead as long the state's regulatory environment is "satisfactory" and as long as more transmission lines are built," said David Butterworth, ANWP's head of international development, at the inauguration ceremony on July 13. National Wind Power operates about 40 MW of wind in the UK.
