PUBLIC LANDS IN TEHACHAPI
1 December 1994
Nearly 60 people attended a meeting about wind development on public lands in Tehachapi in early November, but opposition to new projects was far less than expected. The US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) held a public meeting to review concerns about proposed wind development in the Mojave-Tehachapi area. Some of those who attended were incensed by pans to build wind projects on a 24,000-acre area. Wind supporters had expected protest to be more dramatic than it was. Still, comments about the price of wind power, electromagnetic effects on humans and animals and whether SCE will buy the power were fielded by BLM officials. They will respond in a preliminary environmental impact report next year.
