Offshore again

A site at last seems to have been found for Denmark's second offshore wind farm, to be developed by utility Elsam. Ten wind turbines are now planned for a two kilometre long submerged sand bank off the east coast of Jutland, south of Aarhus, the country's second largest city, and west of the islands of Samsø and Tunø. The turbines will be visible from the Jutland shore and are close enough to the 85 citizens of Tunø to possibly also be heard. The site was chosen after investigation of some 20 other locations. One of the purposes of the demonstration project is to study the effect of a wind farm on the sea environment, particularly on bird life, and it was important to find an offshore site with birds to disturb. A final decision on the site is due to be made at a meeting of Elsam's wind energy committee on March 24.
