First small wind farm

Luxembourg is to get its first wind farm, a project of four, 500 kW turbines to be built at Mompach by Windpower SA on a government contract, according to Reuters news agency. The government aims to cut its electricity imports by 10% using wind, cogeneration and hydro power. Currently the country imports 98% of its electricity, states Reuters. As well as government and European Union subsidies, soft loans from state-owned industrial investment bank SNCI will also be available to the project developer. Luxembourg's utility, CEGK.LU, is also actively considering development of wind energy.
