First units up in largest onshore wind farm in Holland

The first two Enercon 3 MW turbines for what will be the largest onshore wind farm in the Netherlands are now online at Westereems Wind Park. The remaining 50 turbines for the 156 MW facility, being developed by Dutch utility Essent, are scheduled to be operational by the end of the year. The project is being built to replace and extend the old wind farms of Eemshaven and Eemsmond, which comprise 134 wind turbines -- a mix of machines supplied by NEG Micon (now Vestas) and long bankrupt American Kenetech units -- with a combined capacity of 44 MW.
