Enron to install megawatt prototype
1 July 1999
Enron Wind Corp will install a prototype 81 metre 1.8 MW turbine by year-end in Tehachapi, company leader Ken Karas told Windpower '99. Karas said he expects the turbine to bring down the cost of wind electricity to $0.025-0.03/kWh. Enron Wind, based in Tehachapi, California, is owned by Texas energy giant Enron Corp. The wind company says its production model, the Z-750, produces electricity for $0.04/kWh. Throughout his talk, Karas hammered home the view that reducing wind power's cost is the key to the industry's future.
