Spain's largest wind operator, Iberdrola, has become the first Spanish utility to trade green certified electricity. The renewable energy certificate deal was for a total of 7200 MW of hydropower which went to Germany. The power supply was certified by the Renewable Energy Certificate System International (RECS International) set up last December by ten European electricity traders, including Iberdrola. RECS' aim is to promote clean energy sales via a Europe-wide certificate system. Iberdrola says that similar deals are being considered, which could include certified wind production. Iberdrola's RECS team, however, is reported to perceive an ebbing of the green certificate tide in Europe, feeling that plans for certified wind production remain unclear.
