Italian power group Enel is planning to bundle its wind and other renewable energy assets into a single division and possibly sell a minority stake in the unit next year. Presenting its 2008-2012 strategic plan, Enel also says it will invest EUR 6.8 billion in renewables in the next five years, 65% more than foreseen in its 2007-2011 plan and equivalent to about 18% of its intended investments in 2008-2012. Enel reports that its global wind capacity at end-2007 amounted to 857 MW and will increase this to 3112 MW by the end of 2012, adding 1071 MW of the total in North America. Enel's operating wind plant in North America amounts to 130 MW today.
