Government pledges policy support for renewable energy
1 July 2006
Italy's new government has pledged additional measures to encourage the use of renewables in framework legislation on the energy market approved by the cabinet in June. Although specific measures must be approved in follow-up legislation, the move was welcomed by Associazione Nazionale Energia del Vento (ANEV), Italy's wind energy association. ANEV applauded the government's plans to break down national objectives for renewable energy between regions and to make regions accountable for reaching these targets. The association also welcomed plans to provide compensation to local administrations that accept the presence of energy infrastructure on their territory.
