Considering laws aimed at speeding up wind development
1 March 2006
Two bills will go before lawmakers this month aimed at speeding up wind development in Sweden. One intends to raise the size cap on wind projects which must apply to local municipalities before beginning planning. Today's cap is 1 MW. The sustainability ministry's Claes Pile says a proposed cut-off of 5 MW or even 10 MW is likely to be proposed. A second, separate amendment will advise changes to the way municipalities conduct their physical planning. Last month Pile was reluctant to specify the proposed changes other than to say the ministry wants to make it easier for a municipality to designate areas of interest for wind power development in their plans.
