Afsluitdijk wind study
1 September 1996
For some time the wind community has had its eye on the considerable potential for wind development on the huge Afsluitdijk, the 30 kilometer dike separating the Waddensee and the IJsselmeer. But fears for any weakening of the structural safety of one of Holland's most vital dikes, along with warnings of traffic chaos, and possible bird kills have so far prevented any project from getting off the drawing board. Now the provinces of Friesland and Noord-Holland on either side of the dike have decided to set up a working group. Its task will be to separate fact from fiction to enable a serious discussion of the potential.
