Turbines bound for Argentina's first large scale wind farm were shipped from Denmark last month. The eight 750 kW Micon machines have been specially adapted for the high wind speeds at Comodoro Rivadavia in the south of Argentina. The project is being developed by Micon for the local utility, the Sociedad Cooperativa Popular Ltda De Comodoro Rivadavia. Financing has been arranged from Denmark and the wind farm will have paid for itself within seven-and-a-half years, according Micon's senior manager of sales and marketing, Bjarne Thorup-Jensen. The wind farm site already houses two Micon 250 kW turbines which have been operating there since early 1994. "Each of the two 250 kW turbines has produced one million kilowatt hours a year," states Micon. Micon established a subsidiary in Argentina's capital city, Buenos Aires, in 1993.
