Japan's Meidensha Corporation, known as Meiden, is to market two wind turbine models supplied by German company RePower Systems, RePower's 750 kW and 1.5 MW machines. Once 15 machines have been sold, Meiden will be granted a licence to build RePower Systems turbines in Japan under the terms of the deal. Meiden is one of the leading engineering companies in Japan, employing 8000 people and boasts an annual turnover of EUR 1.8 billion, says RePower Systems, based in Hamburg. The Japanese wind market is in the early stages of development, the company admits. But enormous growth can be expected following the Japanese government's decision to install 3000 MW of wind power by 2010, it adds.
