Just a month after it emerged that a bid by Zond Systems Inc had been short-listed by a Texas utility, the California wind developer and turbine manufacturer is on a second utility short-list -- this time in Colorado. Zond, based in Tehachapi, is one of two renewables bids on the short-list of 23 bids selected by Colorado Springs Utilities. If selected, Zond is proposing a 10 MW project to be on-line in Colorado in October 1998. The second renewables project, by PacifiCorp, is probably for power purchased from a Kenetech wind farm planned for Carbon County, Wyoming. A final decision by Colorado Springs Utilities is expected sometime this month. The request for proposals, issued last autumn, is for 100 MW in total of new generating capacity. Several weeks earlier, Zond was short-listed by Southwestern Public Service Co of Amarillo, Texas (Windpower Monthly, March 1996).
