Wind continues to hold its position as the fastest growing energy technology (albeit from a small base), even though the American market lies dormant. Megawatt scale machines look to be making a commercial breakthrough, at least on the German market. At the other end of the size scale, smaller systems are being rapidly developed, particularly in the Pacific rim, Russia, north Africa and Australia. In the Netherlands, the private sector market for grid connected turbines could see more dynamism: there is a new eco-tax credit for electricity from renewables.
