Green energy tariffs in the north

ScottishPower and its north-west England subsidiary Manweb are to offer their customers a new "Green Energy" tariff later this year. Three million customers will be eligible to opt to pay a 5% premium on their electricity bills to fund new renewable energy projects. The proceeds of the tariff will be invested in wind and hydro plant that would not otherwise be built. ScottishPower, in conjunction with local community groups, will choose the projects to be supported. According to ScottishPower, the projects will be audited by independent experts.
