Calls for EU to set up renewable energy export council

European Renewable Energy Council (EREC), is calling on the EU to set up a renewable energy export council as part of a series of co-ordinated actions to strengthen the EU's leading position for renewable energy on world markets. In its recently published export strategy for renewables, EREC, the umbrella organisation of Europe's renewables industries, says a common approach is needed at EU level so that Europe can hold on to the EUR 17 billion renewable energy export business predicted for 2010. A European renewables export council would be a powerful tool to promote European technologies on world markets and is needed to counter strong export promotion in the US, Australia and Japan, the council says.
