Pfleiderer installs first 1.5 MW turbine in Germany

Pfleiderer Wind Energy has installed its first 1.5 MW turbine in Germany at a site near Altdorf near Nürnberg. The machine is operated by Jura Energie of Neumarkt and with a hub height of 100 metres is the tallest turbine in the southern state of Bavaria. The lower 35 metres of the tower is constructed from external pre-stressed concrete while the upper 65 metres is from steel. The pre-stressing cables, anchored in the concrete foundation, help to pull the steel part of the tower onto the lower concrete section, explains Pfleiderer's Rolf Werner. Another Pfleiderer 1.5 MW turbine is currently in operation near Vienna, Austria.
