Forecasting output

A new method of forecasting likely wind strengths to provide information to power system operators of expected output from wind plant is a "clear improvement," on existing systems, say its developers. By combining the physical and statistical approaches now in existence -- the Danish Prediktor and Wind Power Prediction Tool (WPPT) systems -- the new Zephyr is a tool offering far more reliable data. Zephyr has been developed in a collaboration between the Danish wind turbine test centre at Risø and the Oldenburg University in Germany.
