German developer erects single turbine in first wind project in Arabian Gulf

Within just 12 months, German developer Synlift Systems has completed the first wind energy project in the Arabian Gulf. The project comprises a Vestas 850 kW turbine on the island of Sir Bani Yas, off the coast of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), installed on behalf of the UAE government. Synlift will operate the turbine for two years, after which a second development, featuring a wind powered water treatment plant, may begin. Founded in 2000, Synlift is a four-man wind consulting and development company based in Berlin. It plans to proceed with its first German wind project next year.
