An Internet camera mounted at the top of an Enercon E40 600 kW wind turbine at Heimbach has delighted the town's mayor for its tourism promotion potential. The camera will snap a picture three times daily of the surrounding countryside -- which stretches as far as the lignite mining area between Aachen, Cologne and Mönchengladbach -- whenever anyone clicks on the appropriate button on the web site of German solar and wind developer SolarWorld. The E40 is one of three recently inaugurated at the site by SolarWorld, the company's first wind plant on-line. SolarWorld plans to install a total of 100 MW in the Eifel region. The next stations are slated to come on-line near Schleiden and Mechernich in the autumn.
