Nordex to install first offshore turbine in side-by-side testing project in Denmark

German Nordex has begun testing the offshore version of its 2.3 MW N90 turbine. Last month it began installation of one unit at Danish utility Elsam's test station off the Danish port of Frederikshavn in North Jutland. The N90, the first Nordex turbine to go offshore, is joining three other models, two from Vestas and one from Bonus. Later this year, Nordex plans to install another N90 in Germany in the Breitling River estuary near Rostock in conjunction with Wind-Projekt Ingenieur-und Projektentwicklungsgesellschaft. The German developer intends to gain preliminary experience for a planned offshore wind station, Nordex says.
