Spanish turbine manufacturer Gamesa Eólica has been awarded five contracts worth EUR 76 million to install wind stations with a combined capacity of 115.6 MW in the Italian island of Sicily. Gamesa says it will supply 136 of its 850 kW work horse to Italian companies Windpower Sud Srl, Enpower Srl and Moncada Costruzioni. Assembly is expected to begin soon. Gamesa will build, operate and maintain the wind turbines in the five projects. Forty-four turbines will be delivered to the Monte Petrasi wind farm; 28 turbines to a project in Narbone; 21 to Malvizzo; 33 to Durra and ten to Monte Mele, all in Agrigento. After Vestas, Gamesa ranks second among turbine manufacturers in terms of MW installed in Italy last year.
