Maharashtra government imposes green tax on electricity sales

Maharashtra's government is imposing a INR 0.04/kWh green tax on sales of electricity to industrial and commercial consumers of public and private utilities. Appearing on electricity bills since the start of the year, the money raised -- forecast to be around $22.25 million a year initially -- will be used by the Maharashtra Energy Development Agency to help renewable energy projects in the state.
