Chinese turbine maker secures its bearing supply

Germany's Schaeffler Group, the holding company for INA and FAG, two major suppliers of bearings for the wind industry, has agreed a strategic co-operation with Chinese turbine manufacturer Sinovel Windtec. Schaeffler, which has three manufacturing bases in China, will supply ten types of bearing products to the Chinese firm. Sinovel is developing 3 MW and 5 MW turbines for offshore use and markets a 1.5 MW turbine with 85.7% Chinese content. Sinovel is affiliated to Dalian Heavy Industry, a huge company with shipbuilding as its core business.
