Conference video link-up allows for virtual opening of southern Alberta wind farm

The fact that this year's conference was being held in downtown Montreal did not stop the wind industry from celebrating the completion of Canada's newest wind farm half a country away. The Vestas 1.8 MW turbines at Vision Quest Windelectric's 68 MW Summerview Wind Farm in southern Alberta spun via video linkup while Federal Natural Resources Minister John Efford announced the C$100 million project, which began commercial operation in early October, will receive C$24.7 million in payments under the government's wind power production incentive program. "It is not only the wind power you are generating, it is not only the jobs that are being created and not only the 28,000 homes that can be powered by its electricity, but look above it. No emissions. I think that is a fantastic message to be sending here this morning," said Efford.
