Canada's environment minister, Stéphane Dion, used the annual Canadian wind conference to unveil new wind energy mapping software developed by federal scientists. It will allow users to assess the resource in an area as small as 100 square metres. The new tool, called WindScope, will allow studies to be made much more rapidly, with greater confidence and certainty, and at a lower cost than what was possible up until now, said Dion, helping to "accelerate the rate of wind farm development in Canada."
