The idea that wind projects could have a role as green negotiating chips in the current US mania for utility mergers is new. But it seems from events in the Pacific Northwest that development of renewable sources of energy couldbecome a prerequisite for consumer approval of otherwise unpalatable corporate marriages. An epidemic of electricity industry mergers was anticipated as utilities jostled for position at the start gates of deregulation. That wind would reap green benefits from the méléé was not.
