Proposals for 50 MW wind project in Italian Alps

A 50 MW wind plant is being proposed for the Italian Alps. If approved, it will be the first in the northern region of Lombardy and is slated for an area known as the Upper Vallesplugge. Ugo Parolo, a government official with the province of Sondrio, says it is too early in the authorisation process to reveal the name of the company behind the project. He says the province is aware of the importance of exploiting renewable energy, but adds that the proposed plant would be constructed in an environmentally protected area that draws tourism for the beauty of its surroundings. Parolo says local governments in the region have no well-established procedure for authorising wind plants.
