High voltage grid expansion in danger

According to the 1996 annual report of Preussenelektra, regional planning legislation in Schleswig-Holstein states that any expansion of the high voltage grid to allow for more wind power capacity should be avoided. "A limit is thereby put on the volume of wind capacity that can be installed in the region," adds the report in its comments on future investment in expanding the 110 kV grid in Germany's coastal regions. Preussenelektra also reports that two new transformer stations have been built near Paderborn in North Rhine Westfalia to take electricity from planned future wind stations.
